Clove oil is commonly obtained by steam distillation from the leaves, stems, and buds of the Eugenia caryophyllata tree, which is native to Indonesia and the Malacca Islands. It is a potent oil with a warm, strong, spicy scent and must be used very diluted and with great care in aromatherapy. Essential clove oil can be used to heal or relieve acne, bruises, cuts, burns, and leg pain, as well as a pain reliever for rheumatism and arthritis. It is also said to be good for digestion and to help with vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, cramps, and parasitic infestations. It is considered valuable for relieving respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, and tuberculosis. In aromatherapy, this essential oil stimulates the mind and acts as an aphrodisiac. It alleviates mental exhaustion and fatigue and promotes sleep in cases of insomnia. Cloves were widespread in ancient India and China. It is believed that ancient Chinese medicine used cloves to treat digestive disorders, diarrhea, hernias, athlete’s foot, and fungal infections.
