Geranium essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and stems of the Pelargonium odoratissimum (apple geranium) plant. a variety of complaints.
Geranium essential oil helps balance oily and dry skin and promotes a balanced mood, relieving stress and anxiety. It is said to act on the adrenal cortex, which in turn has a balancing effect on the hormonal system. Geranium oil is
Used to treat acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, ringworm, ulcers, breast swelling, edema, circulatory disorders, sore throat, tonsillitis, premenstrual syndrome, menopausal symptoms, stress, and neuralgia. Its strong odor
Repels mosquitoes. Add a few drops to shampoo to relieve headaches.
These geraniums were believed to ward off ghosts (much like mosquitoes!), and were therefore planted as hedges around houses. The plants originate from South Africa, Réunion, Madagascar, Egypt, and Morocco and were introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Although there are approximately 700 varieties of this plant, only ten of them produce essential oil in sufficient quantities. The varieties planted in gardens usually produce too little oil for extraction.
