Jasmine is a delicate, evergreen climbing plant native to China and India with small, white, star-shaped flowers that are picked at night when their fragrance is at its most intense. Jasmine essential oil has a sweet, exotic, and intensely floral scent. It is expensive because its distillation is more laborious than that of most oils. It is used for deep relaxation, relief from depression, and boosting self-confidence.

This oil is said to calm the nerves, instilling a sense of confidence and optimism, and restore energy. It shortens labor time, thereby intensifying labor and reducing pain. Thanks to its soothing and calming properties, it is said to relieve impotence, frigidity, and premature ejaculation. It helps with coughs and sore throats and is also suitable as a massage oil to relieve muscle pain, sprains, and stiff limbs. Jasmine essential oil tones dry, oily, or sensitive skin, increases elasticity, and is said to reduce stretch marks and scarring.

Jasmine has been considered a sacred flower in India for centuries and is still strung in garlands for Hindu gods and goddesses. Indian women commonly wear jasmine in their hair, and it is also one of the main flowers in wedding garlands. According to a myth, the sun god Surya rejected the love of a princess who was so heartbroken that she committed suicide. A jasmine plant grows from her ashes scattered on the ground. Because the sun god caused her so much pain, the jasmine flower bloomed only at night, releasing its fragrance.
