Lavender has been valued for centuries for its distinctive aroma and countless beneficial effects. The Egyptians and Romans already used lavender for bathing, relaxing, cooking, and as a perfume. Its calming and relaxing properties when used internally are still the best-known characteristics of lavender today.
Lavender is often used topically to reduce skin blemishes. Add it to bath water to relieve stress, or apply it to temples and neck. Put a few drops of lavender on pillows, bedding, or soles of feet to relax and prepare for a restful night's sleep. Due to its versatile properties, lavender is considered an essential oil to always have on hand.
