Neroli oil is extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara), also known as neroli bigarade, and has a scent similar to bergamot. The blossoms are hand-picked, and the oil is extracted by water distillation, as the flowers are too delicate for steam distillation. Due to its wonderful fragrance and therapeutic properties, it is one of the most popular essential oils.

Neroli essential oil has a very calming effect and is said to relieve chronic anxiety, depression, shock, and stress. It is also said to relieve intestinal cramps, colitis, and diarrhea. Thanks to its calming effect, tapping helps with insomnia, heart palpitations, neuralgia, and dizziness. It is recommended to heat a small amount of it in an aroma lamp in the convalescent room. On the skin, neroli oil is said to promote skin cell regeneration and prevent unsightly scarring, smooth the skin, and combat stretch marks and broken capillaries.

Neroli oil was probably already used by the Romans. In 1680, Anna Maria Orsini, Princess of Nerola, perfumed her gloves and bath with the scent of the bitter orange tree, creating a fashionable new fragrance. From then on, the essential oil was named neroli after her. Folk tales say that these orange blossoms adorned bridal beds to help newlyweds relax in bed. Producing the oil is expensive and requires great care, as the blossoms must be picked immediately after blooming.
